It works through a cell structure called cytochrome c oxidase, a terminal enzyme found in the mitochondria. This is compared to photo-absorbing structures in plant enzymes.

We can back up and began explaining by observing how plants work with photosynthesis. It is the conversion of carbon dioxide to organic compounds using energy from sunlight. As the plants absorb light, the “machinery” or processing means within the plant becomes even more stimulated. 

If we look at photo-absorbing structures in plants they are highly specialized, capable of taking in photonic energy which is evident in the excitation of electrons. The excitation of electrons via the absorption of light (primarily red & blue) is an essential component for stimulation of the plants electron transport chain in order to produce adenosine triphosphate (ATP). The excitation of electrons in important process and what drives plant machinery promoting growth, stability and reproductive capabilities.

This is where we come back to the human photo-absorbing structure- cytochrome c oxidase, a terminal enzyme found in the mitochondria. Through the absorption of light ATP synthase is stimulated, which is responsible for ATP.
