Frequently Asked Questions
1. Does my insurance cover acupuncture?
Everybody’s insurance is different. Ask your insurance company about acupuncture options specifically for Hawaii acupuncture, if applicable I will be listed as a provider. Blu Jade Acupuncture/ Dr. Laura Michele, DAOM, L.Ac. & LMT, Hawaii is insured and a provider for HMAA, ASH (American Specialty Health), Ohana Care & VA (Southside only). I can also provide a “superbill” that you can give your insurance a full receipt along with diagnosis codes, CPT codes as well as my Kauai acupuncture licensure.
Please make sure to call your insurance company to find out exactly what they cover for your specific plan. Everyone may be different. Laura works diligently with the insurance companies so that you get the treatment you deserve, please be aware, in the end payment is your responsibility.
First time visits are $150 minimum for 90 minutes in office • Follow ups are $100 per hour in office. Always check current prices with me over the phone. My goal is to treat everyone that is seeking help, please ask if you truly can not afford current pricing. Mahalo.
Please call me for current exact prices or if you need special assistance.
2. What if I’m afraid of needles?
Needles are just one of the ways to practice Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). There is also herbal medicine, QiGong, Tai Qi, Tui Na or Chinese massage, moxabustion, gua sha, cupping, vibrational healing with tuning forks in place of needles, or Erchonia Cold Laser, Russian Scenar, Bemer, essential oils, flower remedies, etc. and of course diet and lifestyle. Needles are actually extremely thin and small, like cat whiskers. You may want to just try needles gently and slowly so that it feels right for you.
3. Can children benefit from acupuncture?
Yes! Children usually heal as quickly as they get ill or hurt. In TCM this age is regarded as very yang in nature. Some children as young as infants benefit from a single needle and others from just touching pressure points, acupressure or tui na. There are other tools as mentioned above. I’ve found tuning forks work great and they are kid friendly and fun. Many times Chinese herbs are very helpful with ear aches, sleep issues, anxiety or just ask if there is something you are curious about.
